Compound Learning

published date Dec 24, 2024

I’m a believer in compound learning—each sheet of knowledge builds on the last, leading to exponential growth in understanding.

Learning isn’t just about acquiring new knowledge; it’s applying it to refine understanding and strengthen foundations over time, which is I always wanted.

Here’s how I build compound learning:

  1. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲: Start with core principles and foundational skills in your field. With strong foundations, advanced topics become much easier to understand.
  2. 𝗕𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆: Regular, small sessions of learning will add to progress significantly.
  3. 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲: Every new topic can be related back to something you already know. This will deepen understanding and retention, making new skills easier to apply.
  4. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Applying what you learnt builds context and solidifies what you’ve learned.
  5. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲: Revisiting past topics from time to time strengthen understanding and reveals nuances you may not have noticed. Each review builds your comprehension, making it more refined.
  6. 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 & 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲: Explaining concepts to others forces you to refine and clarify your understanding helps in uncovering gaps in knowledge.
